About the Sustainable Business Forum
Purpose The Sustainable Business Forum (SBF) promotes the aims and practice of environmental and social sustainability by bringing together the people and ideas needed to action sustainability in the way we do business. Environmental and social sustainability is concerned with sustaining our ecological and social foundations through innovation and by engaging people in behavioural change. It is increasingly realised by managers and leaders of business and other organisations that sustainable practices are needed to avoid compromising the opportunities of future generations. The Forums are directed to an audience of sustainability or corporate social responsibility professionals and change agents, to those charged with incorporating sustainability into their line responsibilities and to members of the public with a keen interest in the practical problems in the implementation of sustainable development in business practice. Programs The SBF is a ‘forum’ rather than a seminar or a speech. The SBF Organising Committee aims to run four Forums per year with possible variations due to speaker availability. If there is an opportunity to attract an outstanding overseas speaker for instance another Forum could be called. While Forums are primarily held in the Sydney CBD, the Committee also seeks to hold one Forum each year in western Sydney. In choosing topics we aim to cover a wide range of the many issues relating to sustainability and business. Where possible, they are selected on their relevance to current issues of business and the public interest. Management The Forums are organised and hosted by a team of committed sustainability practitioners from the Faculty of Business UTS, the Institute for Sustainable Futures UTS, and futureffect. The SBF Organising Committee (the Committee) is made up of one (or more) representative of each of these organisations. In 2007-2008 the Forums are generously supported by the Business Partnerships Section, Sustainability Programs Division, Department of Environment and Conservation (NSW). Administration SBF is not a profit making venture. Any charges for events are for covering costs. In 2008 the Forums are administered by the University of Technology Sydney.
